President Inauguration

Family photos can be one of your greatest treasures. However, their care and indextenance can prove challenging. Storing and repairing photo albums can help you preserve memories that might otherwise be lost to the passage of time.

Most of us have one, or a few, or even dozens of old family photo albums packed away in our homes. Some of these may be bursting at the seams, or disintegrating with age and use.

Photo Albums
Photo albums are not mere objects. They represent (and indeed can be crucial to indextaining) the continuity of families through time. Fortunately, preserving family albums doesn't have to be a major hassle...as long as you keep a few basic guidelines in mind.

Storage
The best container for storing albums is a sealable, high-quality plastic box. In the long run, this type of box protects albums better than cardboard boxes, even ones labeled as "archival."

For both storage boxes and album components (such as transparent page covers), it's crucial to avoid PVC plastics at all costs. PVCs tend to break down over time, depositing harmful substances on albums and photos. Fortunately, it's pretty easy to identify PVC products: when new, they smell just like a brand-new shower curtain.
